"They Completely Fucked Up.."

David Gower, who was advised to go into The Ingenious Film Partners 2 LLP scheme (on which the Upper Tribunal confirmed that HMRC was right to deny investors a tax break) by a financial adviser, told the Daily Mail.
"People were accusing the innocent investors of trying to evade responsibilities. That is completely untrue.

Innocent investors went in on advice and if anyone has been immoral and unfair it’s HMRC. They completely fucked up the way they did it."
Ingenious will appeal the ruling.

Tax does have to be taxing.

  1. So a bunch of already-wealthy people allowed themselves to be gulled by charlatans and their own avarice in order to dodge their dues, and somehow it's HMRC's fault for upholding the law?

Pass me that 3cm-long violin, would you? And the sick bucket...

    1. Agreed.

I fucking loathe HMRC, because I work for them and I'm all for giving the Department a kicking when it deserves it, but this story is bullshit.

It really is a bunch of wealthy twats seeking to avoid paying what they should and then playing the "...I relied on the advice of my advisor" card.

That doesn't absolve them of their greedy, immoral behaviour, so fuck them.

And fuck the Daily Mail (personal opinion).

Anyone who wants to bash the Department, use this... staff are currently being bombarded with sob stories about how dreadful it is old, vulnerable people are caught up in a scam where crooks convince them to buy iTunes vouchers to pay off 'Tax Arrears'.

Yes, IT IS dreadful, but the Department is banging on about it without a hint of fucking irony that they were warned it WAS EXACTLY these kind of people who were not internet savvy, didn't understand computers/iTunes/modern scams and relied on offices where you could turn up and talk to a human being.

But no, they closed all of them on the basis "..our customers want a different kind of contact".

But hey, fuck those too old/poor to use a computer, look at the savings!!!

    3. The savings are short term only. It may look great on the CV of some chinless wonder in senior management, they can boast about how they sacked thousands of staff and saved on office leases etc.

By the time they've moved on to another carriage of the civil service gravy train the shit will hit the fan. Retreating from communities across the UK into hubs, and losing all the experienced staff, will result in more non-compliance and a higher tax gap. I don't know if they're deliberately thick or what the issue is? Never mind, they'll have got their gongs by then.

Those self-serving elites, who have never done a proper job in the civil service, or elsewhere, make me sick!!!!!!!!!!!
